Metabolism of the Heart
Underneath all stress and trauma physiology is a metabolism. Metabolism means exchange of substances. In this case, the lining of the heart, the lining of the arteries, and the lining of the gut are all exchanging substances. Any disturbance in one lining, such as the pervasive, inflammatory conditions in the gut will affect the heart and the vascular system. Thus the metabolism of the lining of the arteries is exchanging a wide range of inflammatory chemicals and disturbing cellular processes, brain function, and heart function. This is now well documented in the literature.
